Getting A Hair Transplant Woodbridge

Getting A Hair Transplant Woodbridge

Though it is mainly used to cover bald spots on men's heads, there are other uses to the hair transplantation process. It can be used to fill in scalp scars, give a person new eyelashes, or restore any other hair damaged by illness or accident. Understanding the hair transplant Woodbridge procedure can help you decide if it is right for you.

The older method of transplantation that is still in use today is called the strip harvesting method. This procedure uses a strip of hairy skin removed from somewhere else on the scalp to cover the bald spot. Once the strip is cut away, the area is stitched up, and the strip is diced into precise, tiny pieces. These pieces are then transplanted onto the desired area. There are stitches and scars involved with this method.

In the follicular extraction method, single follicles are removed from areas with abundant hair with a micro-tool. These follicles are then positioned on the balding area, and inserted with a micro blade. The incredibly small openings in the skin do not require stitches, and generally do not cause post-operative pain. The scars left are pretty much invisible.

The current accepted practice is to perform a test to determine whether a person is a candidate for FUE. But some recent research done in Sri Lanka has shown that those patients previously deemed 'unsuitable' can benefit from the procedure as well, as long as it is carefully practiced. If the transplantation surgeons begin to endorse this view, there may be more access to this less scarring, less invasive procedure.

Both of these procedures are performed under local anesthesia, and sedation if requested. They take about four hours, but multiple sessions may be required if the area to be covered is large. For a period of days before the procedure, the patient will be asked to abstain from drugs and alcohol, in order to make sure the graft has the best chance of taking.

A bandage is used to keep the area clean and dry, and protect it from the sun. Usually, the patient will be sent home with instructions to shampoo daily after one to two days, in order to prevent scabs from forming and causing increased follicular loss. It is expected that the hairs in the transplanted follicles will fall out after their move, but they will soon grow back.

If you get a hair transplant Woodbridge for treatment of male-pattern baldness and then take no other preventative steps, you will likely end up with an 'island' of transplanted hairs surrounded by increased balding after a period of time. In order to make the most of your procedure, you will need to apply some sort of balding retardant regularly, or plan on getting another transplant in the future.
